Winter Wedding Wednesday - Music

You have spent so much time ensuring that your winter wedding is perfect... the decor looks beautiful, the food is savory, the linen texture fits the season, and you even considered evergreen scented candles for the reception (but quickly realized that it was a bit over the top!)

But wait! You forgot a sense! What about the music? Will it "sound" like winter?

Check out the "Perfect Winter Wedding" CD, available on Amazon. It is full of great songs that capture the spirit of winter!

Get the cootie's!

No! Not like in 4th grade - like in wedding favors! The planning process can be overwhelming and lots of couples forget about the fun factor! Cootie Catchers give you the fun factor times ten! They can be used as favors, seating cards and/or menu cards and can be personalized with questions like “Where did Brian propose?” or “What is Kelly’s favorite brunch cocktail?” Keeping the fun factor is especially good for a table of mixed guests who may not all know each other – but even for a table of your closest friends, it’s guaranteed fun!

The first 25 are $25 ($1 each)
Each additional up to 100, add $.65/each
Each additional over 100, add $.50/each

Winter Wedding Wednesday - Pinecones

Since it was so cold in the studio today that we considered typing this with gloves on, we think it is appropriate that today is Winter Wedding Wednesday! Today is all about pinecones... sure you can fill a hurricane vase with them or use them to decorate your cake, but here are a few out of the box ideas!

Incorporate them into your bouquet... or better yet, who needs flowers? Use pinecones instead, as done in this amazing creation by Rosenow Floral.

Set the tone for your winter wedding by incorporating pinecones into your stationary - invitations, menu cars, escort cards, and more. These adorable escort cards are part of a line of stationary from The Green Kangaroo.

And for a fun twist on decorating with a monogram, checkout out these pinecone initials. Lenore Welby and Lawrence Ward (both have the initials "LW") hung their initials, made of pinecones dusted with powdered snow, above the mantel at their wedding. Below it sit glass cylinders filled with mini pinecones and candles. Click here to see more of their wedding photos featured on Martha Stewart.

Things We Love - Confetti

We recently saw these amazing ideas for how to incorporate confetti into your wedding featured on Martha Stewart (where else!).

It reminded us of one of our favorite websites: http://www.photofetti.com/! Whether it is used for a reception, shower, or engagement party, guests will love finding your photos snuck into the confetti!

You can use photofetti anywhere:

  • Sprinkled on tables
  • In thank you notes with photos from the event
  • Glued to picture frames
  • Sprinkled in gift baskets
  • Tossed on the bride and groom (one of our favorite ideas!)

Winter Wedding Wednesday - Knit to Perfection

Boy, is it cold out there! Temperatures are dropping and we’re looking for any excuse to stay inside the studio to keep warm! But more importantly, how are our brides going to stay warm during this winter chill? So, this week is all about braving the cold and staying warm!

Nothing says warm like wool (and no fabric says winter like a knit pattern!) Whether you are a DYI bride or a label-maven, all things knit are en vogue these days. Even if all you have mastered is Knit 2, Purl 2, you can create some beautiful wedding accents.

Check out this ring pillow from Etsy. A few delicate touches including lace and a pendant, give the pillow a vintage feel - which we love! Julie Schuett's fabulous hand made wrap is sure to keep you warm before saying I-Do (this wrap was recently featured in Minnesota Bride.) And don't forget the details - why not add yarn to your stationary? Anything from invitations to menu cards can use a little knit trim, as seen in this adorable stationary set featured on Martha Stewart!

Desserts For the Kid in Ya!

It may be a new year but the dessert craze at weddings is here to stay! As 2009 wrapped up, we saw a transition from candy bars to dessert bars. Now in 2010, couples are looking for a way to make their desserts unique, colorful, and most importantly FUN!

We still love cake and cupcakes (really, really love cupcakes!) but dessert bars or specialty passed desserts are the perfect way to leave guests with a sweet reminder of your special day.

Some of our favorite whimsical ideas are pictured here. Pastry chef Andrea Schwob has a twist on traditional milk and cookies with a tasting dish of gourmet cookie and adult milk (KahlĂșa vanilla milkshake!) Another DM favorite dessert are cheesecake pops - this adorable and delicious dessert was featured on "Mimi on the Move" and is sure to be a crowd pleaser! Who doesn't love chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick covered in candy!? Finally, Martha Stewart offers a fantastic idea if you are really into reminiscing about childhood confections - try these cotton candy treats wrapped around rock candy and died to match your wedding colors!

Winter Wedding Wednesday - Icy Indulgences

Nothing says winter like a block of ice! But rather than pour rock salt over it - how about making it a focal point of your cocktail hour?

You would be hard-pressed to find an ice sculpture that we like, but this frosty bar is right up our alley! As featured by Martha Stewart, this appetizer bar was sculpted by Shintaro Okamoto of Okamoto Studio in NYC. "Set into hand-carved depressions, tumblers of clear spirits make jewel-like aperitifs. Individual servings of seafood are presented in stainless-steel saucers. Clams and oysters on the half shell perch on a bed of chipped ice in carved-ice trays, with accompaniments -- two tangy gelees -- in gleaming silver bowls."
